His Excellency, in his speech said although there were signs of the revenue improving, it was not safe to predict that it would realise the estimate. It wag not intended to submit proposals for fresh taxation this session. It was intended to ask for power to relieve farmers by allowing the payments of rents 011 holdings to be deferred. Sir H. Parkcs moved an amendment to the Address-iu-llcply, which the Government have accepted as a want-of-conlidence motion. In the Legislative Council Mr George Heury Cox has moved an amendment to the Address-iu-Reply, denouncing the action of the Government in the recent nominations to the Legislative Council. Mklbouiinb, February 2t>. Four young men. named Meredith, Batty, Wren, and Minogue, have been sentenced to death for a criminal assault on a woman at Stud ley Park.
