OHINEMURI.
+ Licensing Committhr.— Tho election of the Licensing Committee for the Ohinemuri district takes place this week. There are nominated Messrs James Burnett, Francis Lipsey, Edwin Hdwards. David Snodgrass, F. Cock, J. M. Robson, A. Polton, J. Ritchie ana Albert Moore. Two of these only are of the ultra-temperance party, and not much interest is being taken in the election. Inquest.—The inquest on the unfortunate man William Kelly, who committed suicide by drowning last Thursday week, was held at the National Hotel on Tuesday last. A large amount of evidence was taken, and a verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was brought in. The remains of the man wero taken to tho Thames per " Patiki " next day. Pahkks' FuftNACE. — The untreated quartz, slag, furnace material, etc., from tho Parkes' furnace, in all about 200 tons, is being taken by tho Kotuku and Buona Ventura, from Paeroa to Waiorongomai, and Mr Howoll is making all epeed in getting it carted to the mine. Mining News.—Mr Edward Keraey Cooper has got most of his plant on to the ground at tho Jubilee Mine, Waitekanri, and i 3 now getting it into working order. The whole of the Crown Mine crushing plant is now on the ground, and Mr Coward is getting everything into working order without delay. Before the end of next month (JO or 70 hands will be employed, independent of tho men employed on the Cassell extracting process. A nme-roomed dwelling house is being erected Jo ) the employees of the latter at a cost of Mr Loch being the contractor. Thoro is an air of permauancy about the Crown mine, which inspires one with confidence. It is undoubtedly iu excellent hands, both as regards the directorate and the management. Some grand dirt is to hand, ana two contracts for opening up freoli portions of the miuo are to be let immediately. I have no doubt whatever, judging by present prosperity, that the mine will prove a second Kapaiiija. SnoHTiNG.—Tho forthcoming race meeting, which is to be held on March Kith, promises to be a great success. Tho fact of the Te Aroha races coming immediately before and the Thames meeting two days after will matenally increase the visitors. Nativk Land Couut.— A big Luid Court will be commenced in Paeroa about the third week in March. A large number of cases are to bo heard.
