Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report under date Melbourne, February 7th. — Grain : Since our last monthly report our grain crops have been harvested, but tho returns do not indicate that oar yields will bo in excess of our then mads estimate. The supply of new wheat to market so far has been considerably below that of previous years at corresponding dates—a result duo to several reasons, amongst which may be mentioned the absence of an export demand for Europe, emaller yields, and a diversion of late of some rather large supplies across the border into New South Wales, in expectation of a possible change in tho tariff of that colony. The present wheat crop is good in quality and cleaner than usual, but farmers, in expectation of higher prions later on, are offering very little for sale, though, as compared with past years, prices aro unusually high. It may however be assumed that tho adjoining colonics will bo ablo ts absorb all our surplus unless heavy ship inents aro made from San Francisco to Sydney. This contingency does not appear probable at this moment, though later on it may possibly bo realised Wheat: Our last month's report closed with a quotation of 4s !id. From this figure prices receded to 4s lid, but stiffened again to 4s Old, which is to-day's price. Flour : Demand has been limited, aud quotations range lower.
