Tin: Xi:\v Vt'iiAKK.— A united meeting of the two Lioaids of Whaiugaroa and Raglan took place in the Council Chambers on Monday afternoon, February ISlh. Vroseut : Mr A. Cilmonr, (chairman), and Messrs Wils'.n, Moon, Pnudo, J'ieken and l'egler.—lt was resolved that Mr Wilson bo empowered to order tools required for marking materials passed by him ; that the Clerk was instructed to wiiteto'.ho Marine, Department re the. dolphin piles for wharf; that all ironwork bo tarr.-d before being put into its pi. icc ; that tho Chairman and Mr Wilson arrange ;di"ut the dolphin piles ; that tho Chairmen of the two Hoards, with Messrs Savage and Cogswell, b.i a l- inauce Committee. A large number of the piles have been passed by the Inspector of Winks, (Mr S. Wilson), and ne-st of the material is expected to bo oil the ground in
a.mouth's time. v | liATKi'AVKi'.h' Mr.KTiNG.--A meeting of the Kurioi ratepayers, took placo at To Mata, 011 Saturday, l'.tth inst., for the purposo of considering tho vacancies in tho Hoard, and Mr Vernon and 31. La Trobe, were nominated to (ill them. Mr Thompson occupied the chair. Some discussion followed in reference to tho Hospital Board having stopped the allowances granted to Mrs Paris- and Mr Maxwell, of Te Mata. The former was stated to ba (iS years of age, and the latter was _bo crippled that lie was unable to do anything for his own support, and must, according to one of the speakers, if assistance was not rendered, starve during the coming winter. The Chairman stated he had written to the Board 011 the subject. A resolution was passed to write to the Hospital 13oard, requesting them to pay both parties the former sum per week. ChUP.I'H Skkvices.— During tho stay of tho Rev Mr Walpole here, he has kindly held servico in the Church of Ktigland, The Church last Sunday morning was filled by a congregation assembled from most parts of the district. Tho sermon was attentively listened to, being of a very practical nature. Servico will also be conducted next Sunday evening by tho Rev. gentleman. Fishing.—Every day after breakfast, wo see our visitors going down to tho beach, well supplied with bait, off for the fishing grounds, under the care of Capt. I'bilp, who knows ovary route and corner of our noble harbour. Others at times are well looked after by our worthy Host of the Harbour View Hotel, Mr MOOll, and that son of Neptune, Mr Ward, our local fisherman, Amongst our visitors, who have been most successful, wo might mention. Mr Cox, of Hamilton, who is an ardent sportsman, and timing one day's trip, caught betweon one ;md two hundred fish.
