LOW PRICE OF FRUIT.
The following letter, addressed to the Secretary, Waikato Fruit-growers' Association, has been handod us for publication, and it is quite worthy of attention from the fruitgrowers in Wxikato. Tho question of distribution seems to be the groat difficulty to overcome, and the writer of tho letter proposes to deal in some measure with this phase of tho question.—Sin,—Seeing tho low piices of good fruit selling by auction, and tho high pricos they aro retailing at, 1 think thore ought to be something done for the settlers to alter this state of things, and that a fair price ought to como to tho grower. Thinking the matter over, if I received the support of settlers in your district, I would immediately open a store here and soil for them at a low commission, to be determined by your association, at a reserve price quoted by each settlor, with a little latitude for me to close if inferior fruit was consigned to me. I would bo much obliged if you would bring this short communication before the next meeting of the avocation. I may mention I have had a good deal of experience in the fruit trade of Hobart, being ago»t here for the celebrated Huon River Company, and can give you any amount of references to the chief merchants here; also, if it should be necessary, I would be happy to attend any meeting and explain my views on tho matter. If you should require a good cider machine I can recommend one to import, and could get my own friends, who live in Devonshire, to send it out. I imported one sometime since for Mr James Mason, the well-known florist.—Yours truly, Eukd. Charles Richakdson, Grafton Road, Auckland.
