HAMILTON CRICKET CLUB.

lii'quh'xcttl in pace TO THK KDITOH.

Sir,—Tho fact of the Hamilton Cricket Club being unable to get together an eleven to play Taupiri as arranged on .Saturday last, has caused no little comment in this distiict, and that, of not a very complimentary character towards the Hamilton men. A rumour is abroad, that the result of their late defeat by the Waikato Association Cup winners caused the immediate resignation of the captain, to be quickly followed by the utter collapse of tho whole club. It seems a pity that in the leading township of Waikato, the noble game should bo thus supported in such a halfhearted manner. Fortunately for the prestige of the township, a few plucky ones survived out of the wreck, and made their best endeavours to get a team together in order to fulfil their club's engagement; to them all credit is due. Is it possible that the defunct captain funked it? We sincerely hopii not. Those members of the Tanpiri team who come from a distance could not be informed in time to prevent their coming in to be made fools of. There is no doubt, MrF,ditor, that it is just this sort ot thing that goes a long way towards fosteringthat bad feeling which exists between the footbnlHeams, and which I think you will agree with me is so much to be deplored.— I am, &<:. T.YITIHI. Taupiri, February 18th, 1889.
