WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly mooting of the Waipa County Council wan held at the Council Chambers, Ohnupo, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. There were present: Crs. Lang (chairman), Dawson, Ridler, Grice, Smith and Hunter. Mr Armstrong, county engineer, was also in attendance. Engineer's Rei'out.— The Engineer read his usual monthly report as follows The C!h:ii rman Waipa County Council. —Sir, — Contracts N'w. 98 and'loo aro well advanced, the former for forming portion of the To Rore road, and the latter for grading on the Orakau-Kihikihi road, On contract No. 98 I recoiri in enci an advance of £-3, and on contract No. 100 £12. Contract No. 101, wattling and filling in the sides of pits on the Hamilton-Newcastle road This work was well advanced on my last inspection about a week ago; so also was contract No. 102—forming near Hibbs' — but in this case I did not happen to meet the contractor, who had left. Contract No. fly, road diversion at Alexandra: —The successful tenderer for this work agreed to take up the contract, but being at work at a distance from home, he stated he did not get my letter in time informing him of the day 1 would meet him on the ground, consequently he did not turn up. I afterwards went to the place where lie was working, when he promised to be on the ground the following day sometime. I waited till 3 o'clock, but he had not turned up by that, when I left. As I have not been there since, I cannot say whether he has started operations or not. Walker's Cully bridge still stands, the forward movement of the abutment being but small fiince the last inspection. Several small works brought up last meeting have been completed, while others have not. This is duo to all available hands being engaged in harvesting. Extension oi' Time.—An application for extension of time from Messrs Cronin and McNaul was granted on the recommendation of the Engineer, Relief to Natives. —A circular was received from the Ninth Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, enclo sing a petition to the House of Representatives, on the subject of charitable aid to natives to whom, although they were not rated, the Charitable Aid Board had to furnish relief, which they asked the Councl to consider and if approved of to sign and return fct presentation to Parliament. —Cr. ltidler, the Hospital Hoard representative, said that ho thought that legislation on this subject was verv necessary, and it was resolved that the Board approve of the petition and the Chairman ivas; authorised to sign on behalf of the Council and to afl.x the County seal.

< (rIi.WKI,. —A letter was received from the Maintenance Department of the mi!ways, statin!? that tliey had been instructed to .supply gravel from the Te Awamutu ballast pit upon application 111 any quantity up to 2001 tons loaded in trucks at Is per ton, l.ralfic rate of freight to be added and the Council to take delivery at destination and discharge. The letter wan received. Audit Account.—This account was .again brought up, and on the strength of the reply received from the Controller and Auditor-! ieneral by the Piako County, it was decided to hold it over. Wokiw. —The engineer was instructed to have the titree cleared from round a hole on the Waiparoad, near Mr Parker's section, and also t» get gravel put on the Tuhikaralin'.a road near -Mr Blackett.'s. Tkaction' Kniiinks. —'The Council decided to support the by-law for the regulation of the traffic of traction engines as drawn up by Mr Chepmell. X.MiUows Biuixii:.—A letter was received from Mr S. Percy Smith, asking whether the Council would be agreeable to the Narrows Bridite being placed under the control of the Waikato County Council, the cost of maintenance to be borne equ.illv by both counties.—The clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to have this bridge placed under the control of the Waikato County Council, and also to ascertain whether all the bridges in the Waipa County were properly vested in the county. fcjr.AUGIITEHINO IjICK.VSKS.— TIIO following applications for slaughtering licenses were granted :—M. Armer, W. Gleyo, C. O'Neill, and J. Kecley were held over, the cleric to make inquiries us to whether their neighbourhood was infested with rabbits. Ft;it/.H.—Cr. Rid lev drew the attention of the Council to the furze growing on the Hamilton-Ngaruawahia road, and also on the Hamilton-Ohaupo Road, The Clerk was instructed to send notices to cloar the furze to all persons reported by the councillors as havins* furze growing on the road adjoining their properties. I'ot'NDKKHi'Elis.—There were two applicants for the situation of poundkeeuer and ranger at Alexandra, viz. : D. Coe, til 10s and J. Saee, £10 2s Gd.—lt was decided to accept J. Sage's oiler on the motion of Cr. Grice, seconded by Cr. Kidler. There being only one applicant, J. Calder, A!">, for a similar situation at Whatawhata, lie was accepted, and the boundary fixed at the. Koroinntu Creek bridge on the south, the brick culvert on the north, the Waipa river on tho west, and Fitzgerald's boundary fetico on the Hamilton side on the east;.

Tknohiis. —The tenders fur contract 103, works in Alexandra, were opened, but on the motion of Or. Grice, seconded by Cr. Kidler, they were held over to next meeting.—Cr. Kidler moved that no works be tiono in the county unless they be abso. lntp.ly necessary.—Seconded by Cr. Smith and carried. Payments.—The following accounts were passed for payment: —\).
