HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

A special meetiug of the Council was held on Tuesday evening, to consider the questioti of placing the Hamilton East Baths under tlie control of a caretaker and regulating hours for bathing. Present : dr.*. Knox, Jones, Erear, Missen, Salmon, and von Stunner. Cr. Knox was voted to the chair. The chairman informed the meeting that a requisition had been made to the Council to call a special meeting to consider the desirabilty of having the Hamilton East Baths placed under better control by appointing a caretaker, complaints having been made by several residents of Hamilton East. As there were no properly appointed hours, ho thought it would be right, now that the baths had been deepened and cleaned out, that this should be done. Or. Salmon moved : That the Hamilton East Baths be placed under the same regulations as the Hamilton West Baths. Cr Jones thought that it would be right to regulate the hours for battling, but that the Council should not at present go to the expenses of enlarging the baths. He had visited the baths lately and noticed that the sand was silting up again. Cr Bell said that of late ho noticed a large number of people were using the baths ; he had seen as many as 25 at once in them. He would second Cr. Salmon's motion, which was put and carried. Cr. Missen spoke as to the silting of the baths, and thought that if they were constantly used the river current should effectually carry away the sand, as was the case with the Hamilton West Baths. The chairman moved : That the Bath Committee be authorised to appoint a caretaker for the Hamilton East Baths. Cr. Bell seconded the motion, which was carried. The Council then rose.
