At the annual meeting of the Christchurch Cas Company, tlic report stated, that owing tn the large reduction in the price, last September, which has not created an increased consumption, tho diminution in the profits amounted to .£2,1)114. One and a-half mile extension of the mains had been laid amounting to a total of fifty-six and three-quarter miles supplying 521 public lamps. The consumption of tar for heating tlie furnaces by Marriott's patent had prevented excessive accumulation. Tho balance to credit of profit and loss was and tho total annual revenue, £29,-'l.~>. The directors recommended the payment of a dividend of Hve ppi-cent. for I ho halt year, carrying forward JMra. The Hon. K. J. C. Stevens, J-', (iraham, and A. Jl. Lane were the retiring directors. In moving tho adoption of the report the chairman referred to other concessions made to the public which had the effect of bringing the dividend down to ten per cent, lie alluded to the immense strides being made in London with electric lighting, and said the Oitv Council were shutting their eyes to tho movement, while advocating their osvn gas-works being established. Replying to a question he said the Company would be. in a position, if required, to form an Electric Lighting Company as their premises were suitable. The rep irt and balancesheet were unauioiously adopted, and the retiring directors and auditors were reejected. _____________
