THE BAND PICNIC.
The Hamilton Light Infantry Band hold :i picnic o;i Tues-lay lii*t, in one of Ciptain H;<vii'',s paddocks. Traps, waggons, and 'uivsbs wern provided for ladies and ohiidio.n, anil the. thoughtfulness that suggested this was much appreciated. There was a very good attendance of t.ha public, and at onu time during tin) af!moon thete worn between three and four hundred |.vop!» on the ground, tho fair sex predominating. Races were got up for youngster.- , , tins prizes comprising toys of various descriptions. French tig, dancing on the
gieen, and other amusements were got up, and entered into with great spirit by the I.ids. aud i.is--e.s present, and all sceme-i to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The band played almost continuously throughout the d;>y. The arrangements for sujiplvinp! refreshment* were, perhaps, not so perfect as they might have been hud there been more time to complete them. We, however, heard no complaints on this head from any on the grounds. The picnic broke up about six o'clock. A dance, under the auspices of the band, was held in the Oddfellows' Hall in tho evening, but this was very moderately attended.
