0. Hamilton v. CambridgeOx Saturday last tho first match between four junior "members of each of the above clubs'was played mi the Hamilton Court, and resulted in a decided win for Hamilton. Tim representatives of tho clubs were :-- Cambridge : Messrs Russell, Hartley. Gai.o and McDonald, and Hamilton, Messrs Stevens, (iwynne and Hume (2). Mr K. S. lironktiel'd acted as umpire, bur, had very little to do. Tho first set was between Messrs Itussell and Hartley and Messrs Stevens and Hume. Cambridge opened the ball by winninsr the first Rame, their opponents only Retting 30. The ilamiltonian.-, then woke up, and replied by winning six conseruHve (fames, making the set six to one. Messrs H. Hume and tiwynne then played Messrs McDonald and Gane. Hamilton won tho first live games, then Cambridge won one. Hamilton then won the sixth game, the sot concluding Hamilton six srames, Cambridge one. Tho first pairs then met again, and, as in the first set, Hamilton \v.\s victorious, this time by six sraimw to two. The third set was not played, as from the result of the first two, viz.. Hamilton 12, Cambridge 3, th,- latter coold not have can-ht up had they won a "love" sot. The second set between the other pviirs was then played, ami Cambridge was again beiitcii bv six ".unes to one, making a total in the two sets of 12 games to 2, or a total for the whole of 2-1 games to 5. After a short interval opponents were changed, and Messrs (Iwynne and H, lluino played Messrs Russell and Hartley, and Messrs Stev.-ns and M. I fume played Messrs (Jane and McDonald. The result of tho frames between the former pairs was—■ Hamilton (i and i;-12, and Cambridge -I and I—o, and between the latter, Hamilton li and (j and (i —IS, and Cambridge -4 and 5 and 3—12. Hamilton ware thus victorious ii\ this s-ries by 30 games to 17. A second match was then played between Ales«rs < Jwyniic and Hume and Messrs Russell and Hartley, in which Cambridge won tho first set by (! to 3, but Hamilton won the second by (i—o and the third by 6-2, making the totals Hamilton 15, Cambridge; 8. Messrs Cane and Stevens then played a single, winch was won by the former after some very excitiutr Play by (» games to 3. The total number of games played was 11 J, Haimltin winning 72 and Cambridge -11. Tea was provided by th». lady members of the cluli, and was duly appreciated by both the spectators and players. A return match will be played at an early date in Cambridge.
