Accidknts.—Last week's record teems with accidents and casualties, there being no less than four coach and buggy accidents and one fire. The first accident was to Stonehill's Waihi coach on .Monday last, when «oing down the steep Rahu crossing near Owharoa. The brake refused to do its duty, and the horses galloped down the hill at a. tremendous rate, finally couuning to giief in a cutting. Mrs Kelly was badly cut in the knee cap, and Messrs E. Qumn and Stoneliill weie badly bruised. On Wednesday, an accident happened to Mr Phillip's buggy, while harnessing the. horses, they turned restive, and kicked in the fore part of the vehicle. On Monday Mr John Kennedy left his horses harnessed to [the Knrnngahake coach, unattended. While 011 the road home they bolted for about a mile, and rushed into a row of posts, smashing the front of the roach. An accident occurred to a buggy on the Waihi Road 011 Friday last, in which the xehicle was badly broken. As regards the lire mentioned, this occurred to a small cottage owned by Mr O. Grant, 011 Yv ednesday. Thanks to the exertions of Mr Reuben Parr and others, that the fire was speedily extinguished, and comparatively small damage done.

MtNiNfi.—Mining matters are getting brisk. The Crown Company machinery is expected to arrive at I'aeroa on Tuesday, while there are not less than four other plants in course of orection, i.e., Mr Kersey Cooper's at Waitekauri, Messrs Cha.ipell and Lockwood's at the same place, Messrs Cox and Co. at the Ivanhoe, Tram claims at Karangahake, and the Wailn plant which is not yet quite complete.

Potato Planum;.—Mr NV. J. l r irth has finished plniititip his late potatoes. The greatest trouble was to procure, suitable seed, the colony having been ransacked f;r the same. Mr Firth has been unfortunate in the delays that have occurred, and I am afraid that his outlay will be barely recouped. Tlic irrigating machinery will be started in a week or so. A large quantity of the Freezing Company's Potato Manure has been used, and Mr lleubun Parr, of To Arolin. has been supervising matters cenerally. Town Te.vcke.—The vexed question of the I'aeroa township tenure is likely to bo settled at last, it now being almost certain that the restrictions on the lease or sale of the block will be removed in favour of Messrs Jackson and Russell, who in their turn will either lease or sell to the present occupiers. The township at present is 111 a most delapidated condition, lessees not caring to improve their tenements under the present unsatisfactory state of things. Now that matters are improving there is no doubt that a more wurthy order of architecture will result. New BitinoE.—Plans and specifications for the Waihoii bridge are now complete, and tenders will be called for the work immediately. ».
