The Zealaudia, with theEiglish mails (Decernher 29th), left San Francisco on January 15th, three days late. The Doric left the Cape on ISth for Wellington, via Hobavt. The proposal to raise £1000 for water and drainago proposals as submitted to the ratepayers by the Fetone Borough Council has been rejected. Mr Alfred Glass, solicitor s clerk, died suddenly last night of apoplexy. 1:1.M.5. Calliope left to-day for Samoa to relieve the Royalist. It is understood that the Orlando will proceed to the Sounds via Westport, where the Admiral will land for the purpose uf viewing the harbour works there. A gang of men started to coal the steamer Kanicie yesterday afternoon, to enable her to catch the return tide, but work was stopped by a constable on tho wharf. The idea of sending a cricket team down to Christchurch has been abandoned, as some of the best players are unable to go.
