VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

Hamilton Light Infantry v. Te Awamutu Cavalry. On Saturday last a team of eight members of the Hamilton Light Infantry, under Lieutenant Kirk, fired a friendly match against a like number of the Te Awanmtu Cavalry, under Lieutenant Storey, at the Te Awamutu range. On arriving at their destination, the visiting team were entertained at luncheon at the Commercial Hotel, at which several other members of the troop besides the shooting team were present, including Lieutenant Gresham, Sergt.'-Major Bond, and the chaplain of the troop (Rev. It. G. Boler). Alter lunch, ammunition was served out, and a start immedi itely nude for the range. Tho conditions were : 200 yards standing, 300 yards kneeling, and -100 yards prone ; five shots at, each range ; New Zealand regnla tion scoring and third-class target (ox 4, with figure painted thereon, invisible bull'seye and centre lines). The weather, which bad been unpropitious throughout the morning, cleared up towards noon, and during the match was all that could be desired. Notwithstanding this, the shoot ing of both teams was very indifferent, and no good scores were made. The following are the scores, from which it will be seen the representatives of the. Hamilton Light Infantry were victorious by 40 points : — HAMILTON' LIGHT ISFAN'TRV.

At tho conclusion of the match, cheers were reciprocally given by both trams. The return match will bo tired on tho Hamilton range in about a month's time, after tho ingathering of the harvest.
