LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS.
(by telegraph—own correspondent.) Auckland, Monday. A HOV named Peter IS'ess, endeavouring to mount a tram car fell under it, inflicting such injuries to his arm that it had to be amputated. It transpires that a Nordenfelt—Ouida filly knocked down to Mr Bailey at the Siud Company's sale, was purchased on behalf of Mr 1). O'Brien. Peter O-beek has pa.-sed into the hands of Mr Drake, and will betaken to Gisborue, to fulfill engagements there.
At tho sale of the Bartley Estate, Northeote, to day, twenty-two allotments were sold at upset prices. The store of Walter Knott, Wairoa South, has been totally destroyed by fire. The Governor goes South to-morrow, and leaves for Home in March next.
The ship Waitangi arrived from London to-day. The Swedish barque Orks.ir, which had trouble with her crew and came to Allele land for u new crew, is again experiencing a difficulty. Three men, John Miley, Henry Cooke, and Alox. Jackson, engaged tn go to Europe, refused to proceed to sea, and were charged at the Police Court to-day with a breach of the Foreign Seamen's Act. Accused alleged that the ves. sel's forecastle was not tit In live in. being worse than a pig-stye. Eight of tha men were sentenced to 12 weeks' hard la hour.
The two-year-old daughter of Fred Horsman, Waitakerei, has been accidentally drowned in a creek.
