(by electric telegraph.—copyright). Paws, January 2. President Cakxot, speaking at his official reception, said peace must be maintained during the exhibition year. Roilß, January 1. King Humbert, addressing his Ministers, said his most ardent desire was to maintain peace, and he firmly believed it was assured during 1889. Vienna, January 1. Herr Tisza, Prime Minister of Hungary, in reply to New Year congratulations, gave utteranae to similar pacific expressions. Kniperor Francis, writing to the Emperor of Germany, and the King of Italy, expresses complete confidence that peace will be maintained.
