The Educational Institute met again today. The balance-sheet presented showed a credit of .£ls. It was resolved to affirm the decision of the council at Nelson last year, viz., that it is desirable to affirm the principle of technical education ; that as regards primary schools, technical education must, as a rule, be restricted to drawing, needlework, and elementary science ; that, having regard to the present unfortunate necessity for economy, it would be inopportune to urge upon the Government the es tablishinent of separate technical schools. Mr 1). White, of Otago, was elected President, and Mr H. Worthington, of Auckland, secretary, and Mr G. J. D. Scott, of Christchurch, treasurer. It was decided to hold the next meeting in Dunedin in January, IS9O. This terminated the business. A deputation appointed hy the council waited on the Minister of Education this afternoon, bringing under his notice the most important decisions of the council. In reply, the Hon. Mr Fisher said he was in favour of abolishing Education Boards. His own idea was to keep the standard of education in this colony as far as they were able up to that of England, France and Germany, and he favoured the introduction of Sir William Hart Dykes' Technical Education Bill.
