* The Waikato Times Office, Friday. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKKTS. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Son's Weekly Report.—The horse sale held at the Hny market, on Friday, Dscember 21st, was busy throughout. There was a continued demand for active harness and riding horses, of all classes, from 12 to 3 o'clock. Heavy draughts were not required. Prices for young useful riding horses ranged from £8 to £14 ; inferior, from 30s upwards. At the Remueriv Yards, on Thursday, fat stock were in short supply, consequent on holidays being considered by the railway authorities of more importance than regular business, and the live stock sent on the day of sale being shunted in favovr of coal, prices were higher, cattle from Is to 2s the lOOlbs, sheep Is to 2s, lambs 3s to 4s each, and no pigs brought forward. Dairy Btock, in usual supply, were at late values. Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Weekly Report.—A good demand has existed for grain, but at lower values, consequent no doubt on the decline in prices in Sydney. Horses : The Durham Yards were crammed on Friday, the usual number being supplemented by a draught of 40 from Poverty Bay. They were a useful lot, and found purchasers, of c»nrse at low prices. The 10 Carlyon ponies were a nice lot, and fetched from £3 to £7 ss. Local horses were very dull, but largo numbers changed hands at reduced prices. There was no salo this week of wool, hides and skins, owing to the holidays. The Newmarket sale was held on Monday. Under the average number of all classes of stock were yarded. Few good dairy cows were entered, and buyers were scarce. Fat cattle sold briskly at a slight advance on the previous week. Sheep were yarded in small numbers, and wore dull of sale. Lambs sold briskly at advanced rates. Fat pigs were wanted, but were scarce. Our next sale will bo held on Monday.
MELBOURNE GRAIN MARKETS. Messrs Goldsborough am>Co. Report, under date Melbourne, Docember 13: — During the month harvesting has been commenced in tlio oarly wheat-growing districts, but as yet little of the new crop has found its way to market. Of that which has come to hand the quality is very good, being hard and will filled. Deliveries are not likely to bo largn till next month, whilst there is a strong feeling amongst growers to hold till better prices can bo realised, All will, however, depend on the outcome of the harvest, and until this can be more accurately ascertained much business is not likely to result. Harvest prospects have not improved. The weather has been most unfavourable, und the absence of rain has become serious both to agriculturists and graziers. The season's yield cannot now, under any circumstances, be otherwise than an unsatisfactory one. Wheat is not in much demand.
