(by telegraph—own correspondent.) Auckland, Friday. Mr Phil. Robinson, the war correspondent, considers Auckland far ahead of the other towns of the colony, but says Dunedin is the prettiest.
Mr Edward Harker, well known in connection with the Co-operative Building Society, died on the steamer Oceania, while proceeding to England, he was a well known tenor vocalist.
It is now doubtful whether McDermott, who murdered Kate Kennedy iu Swansonstreet, can recover. His eye will have to bo removed immediately.
A meriting of creditors in the estate of John Buchanan was held this afternoon, when Mr Andrews, as representative of the Bunk of New Zealand, which claims against the estate for £30,3G0, besides contingent liabilities, stated that he was instructed to say that under no circumstances would any composition or assignment be accepted, but that the estate must pass into the Bankruptcy Court. Mr Campbell, who appeared for Mr Buchanan, said that such being the case Buchanan would file a petition of bankruptcy.
