It is estimated that £70,01)0 will be spent during the next few months consequent on the large repairs necessary by the fires at the Belfast Freezing Works and Sunnysido Asylum as well as new buildings projected in the centre of Christehurch.
Two slight shocks of earthquake were felt at Hanmer Plains, and oue alight shock at Leslie Hills.
DUNEDIN, Friday.
Gleeson has been committed for trial for prison-breaking. The case was heard with closed doors.
WELLINGTON, Friday.
The criminal calendar for Monday, 7th January, contains ten charges of larceny, four of perjury, two of forgery and utter ing, one of uttering counterfeit coin, one of fraudulent bankruptcy, and one of indecency.
