RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL.
A meeting of tho Raglan County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Raglan, on Wednesday, the 19th inst. Present: Crs. Mitchell (chairman). Brooks, Sherret, McGuirk, Mathias and Langloy. . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the outgoing and incoming correspondence was read and approved Audit Account. —It was proposed by Or. Brooks, and seconded by Cr. Mathias, " That as the amount charged to this Council for the audit of the accounts is excessive, the matter be retorred back to the Audit Department, and that this Council do not pay the account except on further information." Carried.
Accounts.—lt was proposed by Cr. Brooks, and seconded by Cr. McGuirk, " That the undermentioned accounts, brought before the Council by the Finance Committee, be passed for payment—viz. : — T. G. Sandcs, £21; Vercoe and Sutton, £50; do., £1 10s; J. Douglas, £1 4s; J. McGuirk, £1; A. J. Sherett, £1; R. O. Clark, junr., £3 Gs 8d ; J. Brooks, £2. Tkndbrs.—Proposed by Cr. Langly, seconded by Cr. McGnirk, "That the undermentioned tenders be accepted :—Contract No. 2, Loane and Co., £17 ; contract No. 3, Loane and Co., £73 8s; contract No. 4, Loane and Co., formation, Gs per chain ; drains, £G 10s ; maintenance, £7 10s. Contract, No. 5, Loane and Co,, metal, 7s per yard ; culverts, 2s per foot; pipes, £2 2s Gd per set; maintenance, £14 10s. Contract No, G, Loane and Co., 8d per yard ; formation, 7s per chain ; pipes, £2 2s Gd per set; maintenance, £19 10s ; timber. 17s per 100 feet. Contract No. G, Loane and Co., formation, 8s per chain; pipes, £2 2s Gd ; culverts, 2s Gd per foot; timber, 10s per 100 feet; maintenance, £IG. Contract No. 8, T. Jones, (5.W per yard.—Carried. Whangapk'Road Works,—Proposed by Cr. Brook, seconded by Cr. McGuirk,
" That tenders be called for the road connecting Whangape and Waikato, that, the amount of £250 be allowed to the same, and that the Finance Committee have the power to accept tenders after consultation with the councillor of the riding.—Carried.
Cattle Yakds.—Proposed by Cr. Brooks, and seconded by Cr. Langley, " That tenders be called for the erection of cattle yards on the west bank of the Waikato river, at the Churchill punt.—Carried.
Dog Tax.—Proposed by Cr. Brooks and seconded by Cr. Langley, " That the dog tax be collected in the whole of the County at the same rates per collar as last year. An amendment was proposed by Cr. Matthius and seconded by Cr. Sherrett, that theTa Akau riding bo-exempt from the dog tax. For: Crs. Matthias, McGuirk, Sherrett, and Mitchell, Against: Crs. Brooks, and Langley,— Proposed by Cr. McGuirk, and seconded by Cr. Sherrett, "That the Pirongia Riding be exempt from the dog tax, the voting being as before, also with reference to the Karioi Riding being exempt.—Proposed by Cr. Langley and socmded by Cr. Brooks, " That the dog tax in the Whangape riding be carried out at the satne prices per collar as last year, and that the Finance Committee have the power to accept tenders for Registrar."—Carried. Ratbs Levied.—Proposed by Cr. Brooks, and seconded by Cr. Matthias, " That a general rate of three-farthings in the pound be made, and levied on all tho ratable property appearing on the valuation rolls of the County, comprising the ridings of Karioi, Onewhero, Pirongia, Te Akati, and Whangape, to be paid in mie sum to the olerk and collector at the Council Chambers, on January 3rd, ISB9.—Proposed by Cr. McGuirk and seconded by Cr. Sherrett, "That the rate to ba levied in the Pirongia Road District be only one-eighth of a penny in the £.—Carried.
Road Subvby.—Proposed by Cr. Mitchell and seconded by Cr. Brooks, "That the Wainui and iiuapuko road be surveyed with a view to being cleared."—Carried. The Council then went into Committee.
