THE CATHOLIC SCHOOL, CAMBRIDGE.

A. vkry pleasant evening was spent in the Public Hull, Cambridge, on Thursday last, when the relatives and friends ol the children who attend the Catholic school, were invited to witness the distribution of prizes and a dramatic entertainment, in which the whole of the characters were represented by the scholars. The proceedings commenced by a piano duet, " Waves of the Ocean," very nicely played by the Misses L. Wilson and E. Bull, and was followed by the versified melodrama " Dick Whittington and His Cat," in which the dramatis personie were as follows: — Whittington (a boy of poor but honest parentis). Master Willie Kerr; Mr Fitzwarren ( a London Merchant), Master Thomas Corcoran ; Alice (his daughter), Miss Kate Robbie ; Captain .Tack, (Captain of Fitzwarren's ship), Master John Plescher ; Cook (Head of the culinary department in Mr Fitzwarren's establishment), Miss Clara Madigan : John Thomas (a page), Master Robert Kerr; King of Barbary, Master Robert McGarry; Queen of Barbary, Miss Alice Lamb; Interpreter, Master Earnest Brown ; Sunbeam (Queen of Fairies), Miss Kate Kerr. In addition to these there were 10 other little faries. The play which, was capitally put upon the stage, reflects the highest credit upon the teachers, the Misses Cussens, and Gray, who had trained the children and devised the dresses, and also upon thi children's parents, who had made the latter. The acting was splendid, and all were so good it is perhaps invidious on our part to specially mention any, but we cannot refrain from giving an extra word of praise to Clara Madigan and John Plescher, who as cook and captain respectively, showed histrionic art of no mean order. The pretty Queen of the Faries, Katie Kerr, took her part splendidly, and sang and danced beautifully for one so young. The play was a long one, having nine acts, but it was nevettheless carried through with spirit. Father Fox then presented the prizes, of which the subjoined is a list. He stated that the examiner, who had lately been to Cambridge, had expressed himself highly pleased with the progress made by the children. The audience dispersed about 10 p.m., and the children then had refreshments and a game or two, after which they were taken in charge by their parents and wended their way home :— The following is the prize list: —Master Willie Kerr, for attention to studies, and general improvement; Thomas Corcoran, improvement in arithmetic: Miss Clara Madigan, recitation ; Miss Katie Rohbie, general improvement; Miss Katie Kerr, reading and recitation ; _ Master Henry Kerr, improvement in writing ; Miss Laura Madigan, reading and recitation ; Master Robert Kerr, improvement in writing and arithmetic ; Master Robert McGarry, improvement in reading, writing, and arithmetic ; Miss Lucy McGee, writing and arithmetic; Miss Alice Lamb, improvement in reading and spelling; Master D.
