The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, report under date, Melbourne, December sth :—Stripping has already commenced in the early districts, but harvesting will not be general for a fortnight. The crops of wheat on fallowed lands, and where some attention has been shown to cultivation and preparation of the soil, are turning out fair; but poor and overworked farms will hardly pay expenses. On all the irrigated lands the yields will ba heavy, and this should give practical evidence that if Victoria is to continue a large grain producing country, water will liave to be made a feature in our agricultural future. The oat and barley crops are light, and our requirements for homo demands will nee :s----sitate importation from outside sources of supply. The London wheat market, owing, doubtless, to the rush of deliveries for the moment from abroad, is lower ; but, doubtless, when the ico closes the ports of despatch, the market will again advance. There is nothing doing locally for export in the new crop. Wheat : Expectations of early deliveries of the new crop have made buyors rather shy of operating. We sold average milling to-day at 4s 7-jd. Flour : A rather slacker demand. Stone-miide calls at £11 5s to £13 ; roller, from £13 upwards. Oats : A well-supported demand. We placed Calcuttas to.day from 3s ">d fur inferior to 3s IOAd for prime, and stout at Is lO^d.
