ENTERTAINMENT AND DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES, S. MARY'S CONVENT, HAMILTON.

The annual entertainment in connection wiLh the school at S. Mary's Convent, Hamilton, took place yesterday afternoon in the class rooms, which had been prepared for the occasion. There was a large number of visitor*, consisting of many of the parents of the children, and also several Protestant ladies and gentlemen. The proceedings passed off very pleasantly, tho children showing great proficiency in their various parts throughout, and afforded satisfaction alike to those who have been the subject of careful training and to the painstaking Sisters who thus beheld the fruits of their labours of the past twelve months. The singing and recitations nt tiny little things of the junior classes were full of charm, particularly those given by one of Mrs McGarrigle's boys, and a little girl of Mr Devery's, both only four years of age. In a separate room was an exhibition of fancy work, drawings, needle work and handwriting, all of which reflected the highest credit on the young people and on the Sisters. The following was the programme of the musical and dramatic entertainment. The prologue of the drama " Reverse of the Medal," recited by little Miss May Misßen was admirable and full of self-possession, and the same can be said of the epilogue by another pretty little girl, Miss May Chitty. Overture, " En Route " duet on two pianos by the Misses Edwards, Rsid, Murphy and McManns ; sonpr, " Friendship," vocal duet by Misses Edwards and Murphy; "Martha," duet on two pianos by the Misses Reid and Murphy ; French recitation " Adieux de Marie Stuart h. la France," by the Misses Edwards, Reid and Murphy; "Shepherd's Evening Song," duet on two pianos by the Misses Edwards, Murphy, McManus and McGarrigle; song, "Elfin Call,"by theseniorclass; "Gloria,"(Mozart), on two pianos by the Misses Edwards and Reid and harmonium by Miss Murphy ; French song, "Ellea fui verslos cieux,"by the senior class ; "Marche aux Flambeaux," duet on piano by the Missns Reid and Edwards and harmonium by Miss Murphy ; song, "Music and Her Sister, Song," by the senior class; duet, "The Harp that once thro , Tara,'s Halls," by the Misses McGarrigle and Chitty ; song, " Hearts and Homes," by the pupils ; drama, "Reverse of the Medal." Dramatis Persona : Countess Errad, Miss Lena Jones; Isabel (her daughter), Miss Edith Reid ;'"" Madame Morvill (governess to Isabel), Miss Amy Edwards ; Philips (maid to countess), Miss Louisa Taylor; Ellen (housemaid), Miss Kathleen McGarrigln; Mother Alarum, M'ss Mary Murphy; Jane (her little shepherdess), Miss Mary A. McMatus. Prologue by Miss Mary Missen. After the first Act the following were given:— Song, "Watching For Pa," junior class ; recitation, "Keeping His Word," Edith Jones. Second Act. Then poetry by James McGarrigle ; song, boys ; poetry, Miss Devery. Third Act. Poetry, by three little boys ; dialogue, by two little boys. Epilogue, Miss May Chitty. The following prizes were then distributed by the Rev, Father Fox. who handed them to each recipient with a seasonable word of encouragement:—Christian doctrine, Miss Murphy ; good conduct Miss Lena Jonos ; general knowledge, Miss Murphy; arithmetic,' grammar, and Algebra, Miss Lena Jones; book-keeping and composition, Miss Reid ; analysis and physical geography, Miss Katie Soppett; Bible history and arithmetic, Miss McManns ; grammar, first prize, and second for Christian doctrine.
