CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tnrc annual meeting of the Cambridge Borough Council was hold yesterday, at noon. Present: Crs. Clements (Mayorelect), Priestly. Webber, Bond, Fergnsson, Yonng and Gillett— The Clerk apologised for the absence of the Mayor (Mr James Hally) through indisposition, and Cr. Priestly was voted to the chair. He spoke in eulogistic terms of the Mayor, and also of the Mayor-elect, who would conduct the business in a satisfactory manner. The Mayor-elect then took the chair, and signed the usual declaration.—On tho motion of Cr. Ferguson seconded by Cr. Bond, a vote of thanks was tendered to the late Mayor for the manner in which he had conducted the business of the Council during the past year. Thk Vacant Skat. —The Mayor said he had solicited Mr Hally, and he had expressed his willingness to allow himself to bo nominated to fill the extraordinary vacancy, at which tho Councillors were greatly pleased. Gravkl Contuaot. —Messrs Fogerty and Co. asked permission to throw up the gravelling contract, and enclosed a sufficient amount of money to make up, with the account owing to them by the Council, the deposit of £3. which had been returned to them by the, order of the late Mayor. It was decided to call for fresh tenders.
