WEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Neweastle Road Board was held on Thursday last, at the office of the Board. Present : Messrs Corboy (chairman), Bycroft and Roth well. Resolution Amended.—After reading the minutes of the last meeting, it was resolved that resolution No. 3 of the previous meeting bo amended, so as to empower the Board to execute the works on Partington's Hill, in accordance with other plans and specifications than Mr Redmond's, as the Board may approve. The minutes, as amended, were confirmed. Partington's Hill.—The Clerk wrote to the secretary of the Hamilton Road Board, informing him of the discussion of this Board to execute the works on Partington's Hill, at the joint expense of both Boards, and requesting a reply. The letter from the Secretary of the Hamilton Road Board in reply was read. It was resolved that the reply of the Hamilton Road Board was unsatisfactory, inasmuch as it attaches erroneous conditions, apparently with the object of evading their share of the responsibility, as this Board have paid their share on demand for all works legally executed on this road and with regard to which they had been previously consulted, as the balance-sheets of both Boards will show; and that the Chairman and Clerk be authorised to take the necessary steps, as provided by law, to proceed with this work at the joint expense of both Boards.
Gor.se, &c. —Re proposed Amendment Act for the removal of gorse. The Board approved of the restrictions being confined to half the roadway fronting the property from which the seed had spread, and that the words "grubbing up and removing" be retained in the Act with every facility being given the local br»dy to enforce this being done and so prevent tho proverbial coach and six being driven through the Act as lawyers at present boast they can do. Road Works.—The Chairman and Mr Rotlnvell were authorised to arrange with Mr Moore ro widening culverts on the road pa=t his farm ; and that he bo allowed to placo a gate ou the road as requested, ill accordance with the provisions of the Public Works Act and its amendments, the Clerk to notify Mr Moore of this resotion.
