Auckland, Wednesday. Tub Australian squadron make Auckland their Christmas rendezvous. The Governor is also expected here about that time. Messrs Tonks and Co. sold several farms, &c, adjacent to Henderson Railway Station :—Lot 1, Dawson, £3 10s pei' acre ; lots 2 and 3, Armstrong, £2 17s Gd per acre ; lot 4, Geddes, £3; lot!). W. Aicken, £3 2s Gd ; lot Gl, Aldersay. £3 per acre. Buckland's wool sale to-day was well attended. Prices of longwool and greasy ranged from Old to 7d ; cross-bred, 7d to 7}d. Mr Oliver Mayes lias given notice at the Charitable Aid Board that the system of relief works for the unemployed is olemoralising to the community, and the only way to meet the difficulty is by settling them on Crown lauds, and that a deputation bo appointed to wait on the Minister of Lands on his arrival in Auckland, to urge him to establish additional village settlements in the Auckland province.
The election of directors of the now Moanatairi Company, resulted in the return of Messrs J. M. Clark, Joseph Wilson, John M. Alexander, C. B. Stone, J. Dickey, C. Alexander, and J. M. Mackay. As a. sign of the revival in Auckland, it is staled that property sales within the past few weeks exceed in value the aggregate amount for the proceeding 12 months. One agent this week sold town nnd country land worth £10,000 in a single day.
The butchers have resolved to fight the Frozen Meat Company in ttie retail trade.
