ALARMING STORY FROM ST. PETERSBURG
A DKSi'ATUH from St. Petersburg to th Frankfort Gazette reports a Rtrange event which has rocently occurred within tho Palace of the Grand Duchess Catherine Maohailovna. According to this story a suite of apartments formerly occupied byGeneral Hartmann, the Grand Duchess's lato secretary, was being- prepared for the use of her Hijchness's steward. In ove» hauling the furniture the workmen discovered a bomb hidden in some litter. One of tho men was carrying it from the room in which it was found, when he let it fall. It immediately exploded, shattering- the lower part of his body and throwtrie other workmen against the furniture, much of which was wrecked. A quantity of glass iu the palaco windows was also smashed. In spite of the action of tho police, who havo forbidden anyone connected with the palace to speak of the event, the slory is freely circulated in St. Petersburg. The Michailorns Palace in situated near the Catherine canal, arid not far from the spot where tho Emperor Alexander 11. was killed.
