THE SUICIDE AT TE AROHA.
The Inquest. An inquest on the death of W. Lincoln was held on Wednesday before Mr Ilott J.P., (noting coroner), and the following jury Messrs Lavery (foreman), A. Smith, Cleary, C.<ok, Coelts and Miller. The evidence proved the act of deceased in jumping from the railway bridgo into the river with a sack of stones and clay round his neclc. The act was seen by the hands at the flax mill, a hundred yards distant, and with the exception of two, Aylward and Campbell, who want for assistance, no effort was made by the men to save the man's life nor was the mill stopped. The following verdict was returned That William Lincoln met his death by jumping from the railway bridge into the Waihou River and was drowned, thereby committing suicide and as a rider the aforesaid jury express their indignation at the inhuman indifference displayed by the persons at work in the adjacent flax mill in neither ceasing work or going to render any assistance to save deceased, save and excepting the two witnesses Aylward and Campbell, whom for their prompt action they wish to commend."
