WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of thoWaips County (Council was held in the Council Chambers at 11 o'clock yesterday morning, Present Cm. Lang, (chairman), Hunter, llidler, Finch, Farrell, (.ivice, and Smith. E.NOINKBK's Kefoht.—Mr A. Armstrong, County \ Engineer, was iu attendance, and read his monthly report as follow*^:—The chairman Waipa County Council.—.Sir, —The various contracts Itt at the last meet' ingof the Council were all taken up, two oi which have been finished, the others we'l advanced towards completion, 'lhose finished, are, contracts Nos. 93, sanding portion of the Alexandra-'! « Roioroad, and N.i. 94, reforming and claying neur Ml Blackett's, Tuhikaramca. 1 recommend ilfto payment of the sum of £3 8s on the former, and £9 9s on the latter. Of those in hand 1 recommend the following payments to be made. On contract No. 92, reforming and gravelling portion of the Cam-bridge-Ohaupo road, the sum of £29, contract No 115, reforming and gravelling near Moimvale, £34 ; contract No.'JO, reforming mid claying Kihikilii bush road, £15 15s; contract No. 97, grading portion of the Kihikihi-Te Awamutu road, £2 10', I have to report the existence of u bad bit of road on the Tuhikaramca-Whatawhata road a short distance on the south side of \V liatawliata. The place referred to is an embankment across n small gully about three chains in length—the embankment is too narrow, while the road is worn completely o.'t of shape, rendering the safe crossing of a vehicle somewhat doubtful. Tim place wants raising and widening. The principal difficulty being to get material with which to form tho new bank —'as tho road for a considerable distance on each side is level. Perhaps if Mr Donnelly, the adjoining proprietor were asked, lie would allow the lieccessary material to be taken from one of his paddocks close by. On the same road, and not far from the same place, there is a pieco of swamp that gets very bad during the winter months, this ought to ba fascined and clayed. Tenders are due to-day for reforming portion of tho Alexandra-To Knre road.—l am, etc., Aj.kx. Abjistkong, County Engineer. Kihikilii, November 2Sth, 1888. The report was adopted. Engine Trafkic\—A letter was received from the Piako County Council, asking the chairman of the Council to meet the chairman of other counties for the purpose of framing by-laws in their several districts tor the regulation of engine traffic The matter was left in the hands of the Chairman to meet the other gentlemen, and report at next meeting of the Council. Claim.—Mr W. M. Hay forwarded an account from Mr D. McKinnon for work done amounting to £3 10s, and threatened legal proceedings if the account be not paid forthwith. The Engineer stated that Mr McKinnon had been paid in full lor all work done by his authority, and that for the work which was mentioned in tho acCMunt he had never fiven any authority,— It was resolved not to pay the claim. Pum.to Woliks Bill.—With reference to the proposed Public Works Amendment Bill, the following suggestions were made : —Ist. That tho words " grub up " should be retained in section 3, clause !); and 2nd, That no authority be given to local bodies to encroach on private land, vide clause 10. AfKETINC.—It was decided that the next meeting of the Council be hold on the 3rd Tuesday iu December' instead of the second. Sl-AUCHTUHINT, LIt'ENSH. — Mr J. M. Bond, applied tor a slaughtering license, which tho Clerk was authorised to grant on tho payment of the usual fee. Dous.—D. Lees, dog registrar, reported that in his district he hail registered 8-1 dogs at 0s per head.—The Clerk was instructed to get similar reports from the several dog registrars, and also to call for tenders for dog registrars and a supply of collars for next year, Payments.—The following accounts wore passed for payment : —11. Kusabs, £12 0s 6.i; IX Cronin, £3: O. Appleyard, 17s (id ; K- Waite, £4 8s; Reid and Drabble, £1) 9-1 9d ; Kingdon, £1 2s lid ; J. Fitzgerald, lis; Engineer, £2(i 5s Id ; W. Given, £1 2s (id; H. T. Sibley, £1 10; K. Cox, £2 18s 9d ; W. Bearsley, £3 12s 9d ; J. and }I. Kennedy, £18 lis 3d ; E. Offerson, £1 5s (id; R. Cunningham, £8 2s: Giles and Fletcher, £20 12s (id; R. Norrish, £34 13-1 3d; A. Crawford, £2 !'s; T. Power, 10.1; C. Jarrett, 10s; G. F. Millar, 7s; 11. Myer, ISs lid. Funds.—Tho Cleik reported that the present bank overdraft was £937 3s lOd. Teniikhs.—The tender of Messrs (Iravin and McNall for work on the To RoreWhatawhata road was accepted at the following prices :— Clearing and ploughing, 2s lid per chain ; cutting, ditching and laying pipes, 5d per yard. —The Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications and call for tenders, to be in by next meeting, for various road works. This concluded the business.

Annual Meeting. Tke annual meeting of the AVaipa County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Ohaupo, at noun yesterday. Present: Crs. JjiiiiK, Hunter, Kidler, Finch, l'nrrell, Grice and Smith. The Clerk was in the chair. Chairman.— Cr. Finch proposed that Cr. Lang be re-elected chairman. —Seconded by Cr. Hunter, and carried unanimously. Enoinekh.—The Chairman proposed that Mr A. Armstrong be re-appointed engineer for the ensuing twelve months at a reduction of JMO from his present salary—viz., il'.lO.—Seconded by Cr. Smith.—Cr. Finch moved, as an amendment, tli.it the salary be only reduced £iiO.—Seconded by Cr. Ridler. —The amendmeuton being put was curried, the voting being For: Crs. Finch, Ridler, Furrell and Grice ; against: The Chairman, and Crs. Hunter and Smith.

Ci.KHK. —.Mr N. T. Maunder was re-ap-pointed clerk at the same salaiy—viz., £IJS per annum. HOKI'ITAt, BoAlllJ RKrKESENTATIVKS.— The Chairman proposed that Crs. Hunter and Kidler be re-appointed to tho Hospital Board.—Seconded by Cr. Farrell, and carried.
