Sydney, November 25. Steps are being taken to agitate for the separation of the Barrier district from New South Wales.
One of the most disastrous fires which have occurred in this city for some years broke out at ten o'clock on Saturday night. The building in which the fire originated is a large four-storey one situated in Market street, and occupied by the Sydney Evening News, Town and Country Journal, Illustrated News, and several professional offices which were totally destroyed. The premises were insured for £32,000.
The proprietors of the Evening News estimate their loss by the fire on Saturday night at £60,000. They have made arrangements with the proprietor of the Sydney Morning Herald for the publication of the Evening News.
The Government ha-p placed the Government Printing Office at the disposal of the proprietors of the Town and Country journal in order that its publication weekly may not be interrupted. The proprietors of the Sydney Daily Telegraph have also offered to assist the Evening News in getting out their papers. By a boat accident at Seymour, on the Goulhnrn river, yesterday, two women, named White and Scott, and a man named Green, and another, name unknown, were drowned.
