AUSTRALIAN DEMAND FOR PRODUCE.
BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, Monday. A stron'G demand for fodder and every description of produce has set in from Australia in consequence of the drought. The Union Company has raised the freight for chaff to 401 a ton, and at that rate there is no room for the quantities offering;. The T'irnwera, which leaves for Sydney tomorrow, will have about 400 tons of produce, including Hour, butter, grain, chaff, etc.
Mr E. B. Stone, of Stone Bios., states that tlieie is active inquiry from Australia for all kinds of grain and dairy produce, also a corresponding increase in the demand for suitable vessels to proceed from this port to Sydney and vessels cannot be out-lined, except at very high rates. Stone Bros, have the schooner Sybil loading here for Sydney with general farm produce including a large quantity of fodder; she is to get away on Saturday next. The same firm has chartered the schooner Orpheus to follow also with produce for Sydney and is expected to fill up rapidly. There have been two or three inquiries for other vessels, but so far none are found available.
