RAGLAN.
Exports.—On Monday last our local trader, the s.s. Rowena, arrived from Onehunga, via Kavvhia. She took away from here a full cargo of flax, wool, sheep, etc. It is pleasing to note, as a sign of the increased prosperity of this district, that the steamer has for many trips gone from here loaded full up with produce of various kinds. This trip was an extra one, for the purpose of taking away cargo left behind from last trip. The Up Grade.— Not long since wo observed in one of your issues that one of the Waikato townships was said to be on the down grade, but it is our pleasure to record that certainly Raglan is on the up grade now, and no mistake. On every hand do we see siens of prosperity. Our large flax exports from our numerous mills, our increased wool productions, increased settlement on our land, both at Waitetuna and near the Hot Springs, the development of our coal fitlds in the near future, and a more hopeful feeling throughout the district, clearly shows that Raglan is on the move. Never having received much of the public loan money, it is pleasing to note that our advancement is along the true lines of selfdependence. The Weather.—The weather continues very changeable from time to time, no settled weather prevailing, but cold, cutting winds, injuring orchard and garden alike. The pear trees are suffering most from it. Wool.—Sheep-shearing has been delayed owing to the weather. Quite a laree quantity of wool will bo sent from here this season, and from the great increase of sheep a much larger quantity can be expected next year.
