HORSES FOR INDIA.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—After the numerous statements that have appeared from time to time in the columns of the press throughout the cobny, as to the practically unlimited market India would provide for horses suitable for cavalry purposes, it does seem unfortunate that the first shipment from Auckland has not met with that ready and remunerative sale one could have wished. «The_ report from Major Walnisley, referred to in your last issue, would seem to bear the following explanation: Either the class of horses selected was unsuitable, or the reserve sot upon their value was too high, or the market just at the tiino was over-stocked. Which is the reason ? It is to be hoped that Major Walmsley will take an early opportunity of informing breeders which class it will pay best to breed. He will have had plenty of opportunity no doubt of learning just the kind of horse required for the several services in India.—Yours, &c., John Blunt.
