The Waikato Times Office, Friday. WAIKATO LIVE STOCK MARKETS. Jlb W. .1. lliwtek Uhpouts.—At Ohaupt) Yards, on Tuetduy, lolh inst., there was again a very large lunster of stock, _ the yards being complete'iy lilled with, principally, well-bred young cattle, lor which there was good competition, especially ■steers from one to thre* 1 years old, and nearly all sold. Heifers were at low prices, unless lit for fattening purposes. There still remains au nnsalislied demand for grown steers and fresh cows and heifers to topolf, and a large number can be placed. Dairy cows were well represented, and anything close to calving sold well. About '10 were disposeil of at satisfactory prices. A very large number of beef sold to the trade.' We quote : Dairy cows, from £210s to .£5 5s ; yearling steers, about 250 sold, from £1 Is to £1 8s ; eighteen-months to two-year-old, £1 10s to t'2 (is threo and four year old steers, £2 12s to £3 los ; yearling heifers, lis to 13s; aged cows, Ids to 20s I fresh empty cows and heifers, los to £2 10s; fat heifers and cows, £2 10s to £■(; fat steers, £4 to £4 13s. A number of bulls sold from £1 10d to £2 15s; fat ahorn hoggets, 8s f)d; fat Rheep, in wool, 12s; 07 cross-bred ewes (in wool), lambs at side, 13s 3d ; couple young pigs, G.« !M each ; reaper and mower, £11 10s. At Ngaruawahia on Monday, l'Jth inst., there was a good muster of cattle, principally dairy cows. A largo number changed bands at from £2 Os to £3; heifer calves, 12s to 15s ; two-year-old steers, 30s to 40s. At Hamilton cattle sale, on Thursday, 22nd, I had again a large number of cattle, for which thero was good demand and nearly all sold, those not finding buyers being forwarded to Ohaupo for Tuesday s stile there. I quote : —Empty fresh heifers, £1 0s Gd to £1 10s; eighteen months and two year old steers, £1 7s (id to £2 ; 2.1-year old steers, £2 5s ; heifer calves, 10s to lis; dairy cows, £2 (is (id to £3; factory cans, 2(>a each. Only small number horses entered, and few sold. 1 have also disposed of privately, several pure Ayrshire cows at from, £10 to £15 15s; 1 three-quarter bred cow, £10 ; Ayrshire bull, £1010s ; Ayrshire heifer calves, £10 10s each; 15 three-year-old steors, £2 17s Gd ; young bulls, £2 to £3 each ; 1120 shorn Merino ewes with lambs at aide, and 214 gf>od store wethers at satisfactory prices. I liave for private sale a large number of shorn Merino ewes, with lambs at side, also store Merino ewes and cross-bred wethers, also 500 cross-bred ewes (in wool), lambs at side.
AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS. Messrs A. Bdckland and Son's Report.—At the Haymarket during the past week toddor has sold more freely, and grain has risen in value. On 1 riday last, November 10th, nearly 150 horses were yarded for sale. Riding horses sold freely, and kept their value, ranging np to £12 10s. Active horses, suitable for carriage and 'bus work, were also in demand, but many of the heavy draughts were withdrawn ; those sold ranged from £7 to £20, tho latter price being given for brood mares of a superior class. On Tuesday hides pitched in full numbers were better worth about one farthing the lb. Ox hides ranged from 4jd to 3.W ; cowhides, 3d to 2M ; calfskin?, -I jd to 3/.d the lb. Sheepskins kept! their price, ard a large number of small parcels of wool sold satisfactorily. For the land advertised, thero was little enquiry. Tho first lot was sold at an advance over the upset price, l'or the other lots, no offer was obtained, but they are for sale at the upset price named in the advertisement. Two other sections were sold at the auction at Is per acre, and privately, 300 acres at 10s per acre. Wool was offered on Wednesday in larger quantity than has hitherto occurred on the first sale. There was a full attendance of buyers, prices were firm, and on comparison with the prices obtained for the same clips last season, an advance of about jd was obtained. Prices for longwool ranged from 6Jd to 7id; crossbred, (id to 7«d the ]b. At the country cattle sales, held at Pokeno and Drury, fresh - conditioned cattle were better worth, but yearlings to two-year-olds were at late values. At Kemuera, on Thursday, dairy cows _at calving sold from £3 2s (id to £4 12s (id ; three-year-old steers, £3; grown steers, £4 15s; two-year-olds, 35s to 40s; empty cows, 30s to 42s each. Fat cactle, in lull numbers, were better worth than last week about Is fid the 1001bs., and ranged frnm 12s for cows to 17s for best steers, averages for steers were from £7 14s to £;> 8s ; cows brought from £4 15s to £5 10*. Calves, in moderate numbers, were at late values. Sheep, also in short supply, advanced in price on best wethers, 2s Gd each ; shorn wethers were at 13s; wethers in their wool, up to 18s (id. Lambs, in less number than for several weoks, were better worth. Prices for good quality ranged from 7s to 12s. The pigs yarded were generally of good quality, and satisfactory prices obtained for thcui.
Messrs Huntkr and Nolan's Weekly Rki'OßT.—Grain, horse feed, .seeds, &c. : There has been an increased demand and marked advance in prices, Feed oats have advanced to 3s Od per bushel and sellers have ashed 'Is; maize, from 3s to 3s lid. The price for hay is hardening in prospect of the riydncy "market. Horses : There has been considerable stir in the market, and a good many have changed owners at slightly improved Values. The Durham Yards were crammed on Friday, and there was good competition until towards tljo end of the sale, when it became slow. We quote hacks at from £•"> to flO 10s; light harness horses, from £7 to £13; draught, £!•>. Woo], hides and skins: About the usual quantities were brought forward at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, and the demand wns steady at the previous week's values. JS'o really heavy ox were pitched. We quote ox hides from 3.) d to 4kl per lb. ; cow, 2J.d to 3d ; calfskins, 3A to per lb. ; sheepskins, 2s Gd to 5s 9d each ; pelts, Gd to lOd each ; lambskins, Is to Is 9d. Cattle : There has been little change ill value, and although the numbers brought forward have not been quite up to the_ average, there have been sufficient for requirements. The Newmarket Yards were fairly well filled on Tuesday, the demand for all descriptions was steady, with no noteworthy alteration it) value as compared with the previous week. Sheep: A brisk demand has existed and prices have an upwardjtendency. Wethers in wool sold at 18s; shorn, from 9s 9d to 14s. Lambs were not penned in large numbers, but were lower in value and sold at from Gs to 9s 9d, Pigs : Few yarded, but of good description and were well competed for.
