TE AROHA.

Wariikn's Couut.—Tuesday, 20th in;<k. (before i'l. W. Northcroffc, Esq.) Protection by P. Faes to work the Montezuma with four men for three, months, no appearance, application struck out. Absolute protection for three months for New Era special claim machine site and water race, Wairongomai. This application was adjourned from last Court day. The Warden said that as he understood the position of affairs, it was as follows Mr P. Ferguson was indebted to John Abbot for £800 for money lent, the whole property being held as security, and a term of twelvemonths being allowed to Mr Ferguson to proceed home and form a company or sell the property. Tho twelve months expired in July without the matter being settled, but recently a cash offer of £2,000 had been made in full satisfaction of Mr Abbott's claim, and refused by him, he threatening to foreclose and made tho present application for protection. As he was now informed that Abbott had cabled his willingness to accept the £2,000 he would adjourn the application for fourteen days, and if at the expiration of that time the present owners could show him that Abbott's claim had been settled he would grant them all the assistance in his power. But if Abbott refused the £2,000 and claimed the property he would compel him to put a man on every two acres in accordance with tho mining regulations.

Town Board.— A special meeting of the above Board was held on the 19th inst. to receive tenders for the position of clerk, treasurer and collector. Three applications were received, the lowest offering to undertake all the duties for 5s per week; but it was decided, in view of tho necessity for having the overdraft paid off by the 31st March next, that even that amount could not be afforded. Cr. Heathcote kindly consented to assume the duties gratituously for the time being. Domain Boauu.—Tho Hot Springs Domain Board held a special meeting; on the 21st inst., to consider the advisability of changing the night of monthly meeting. Present: Messrs Gavin (chairman), Ahier, and Ilott. Tenders were opened for the contract to lower No. 5 bath to the level of No. 2, and ranged from £120 to tho accepted tender by T. Niland, £4010s.—Mr Ilott moved in accordance with notice of motion given at last meeting, that the_ resolution fixing night of meeting be rescinded, and altered to some more convenient night for him to attend, and stating that it was very unsuitable for him, on account of the Ohinemijri Council meeting in the afternoon of the same day. The other members being of the opinion that the present arrangement was most suitable to them, the motion lap«ed for want of a seconder. The chairman stated that the clerk was absent, on account of illness in his family.

Mining News.—Tenders are being called for tunnelling, sinking, &c., at the Champion Lode Mine, Tui, the wages' hands having been discharged.—Mr O'Brien, of the firm of Larlcins and O'Brien, contractors, has arranged with the owners of the Mount Morgan Licensed Holding, To Aroha, for a half interest in the ground to thoroughly prospect the claim at his own expense.—Mr Parkes arrived here on Thursday evening from Rotorna, where he has been for the good of his health. He proceeds to Karangahake to complete operations previous to commencing the erection of four furnaces at To Aroha. —News has been received that Mr P. Ferguson has succeeded in floating the Now .Era in Glasgovv. Miscellaneous.—lnspector Goodwin is now engaged in examining the public school. —The bachelors gave a social dance in the hall on Wednesday evening by invitation, about 35 couples being present, and a most enjoyable evening was spent.—Max Rinkle will appear in the hall on Thursday evening next, assisted by a company of vocalists and contortionists.
