(l!Y TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, Monday. Mr H. D. Vogkl writes to the " Post," saying that the novel about to be published in London is Sir Julius Vogul's own writing, and will be published in February. It was commenced shortly before he left New Zealand. He also took home a novel written by some one else, but not by a Wanganui lady, tojintroduce it to a publishing house. Mr Gordon, Inspector of Mines, has furnished a report on the dairy appliances at the Melbourne Exhibition. He says the Albury butter worker is adopted in Victoria and is recommended by the manager of the Model Dairy. Mr Gordon also says that Mr D. Sullivan, butter merchant, of Launceston, 35 years in the traoe, told him that New Zealand butter was inferior to Victorian and Tasinaninn. because it was tainted by the white pine used for the ends of the kegs, and the appearance was spoiled. He thinks that boiling the wood 24 hours would obviate tho difficulty. Mr Sullivan says they h->.ve some difficulty with wood for kegs over there, and recommends oak as the best material ho is acquainted with. He also objects to the use of calico wrapping. A man encaged pile driving on the property of Mr W. H. Levien, Upper Hutt, di=-coveiod a couple of small nuggets. Further seaich is being made.
