A British agent in this town reports that he paid a visit to the missionary station, Mombasa, a port on tho mainland north of Zanzibar where ho found 110 less than fourteen hundred runaway slaves who had been received and protected by the missionaries. On behalf of the British Government he assured them of their freedom, but owing to the, dilliculty in providing for such a number of people he thought it host to ask for instructions before taking further action.
