The Nkw Zk.h.anp Loan , anh MkkcaxTILB AOESCY report, under date:—Adelaide, October 27.—Wheat.—The unfavourable harvest prospects have made holders very firm, and we quote values today 4s 8d to 4:i y>l on trucks, Ft. Adelaide, bags included.—Kloi.r.—Best patent roller is quoted at t'lO to £10 10s ; country supertine, £!) us to £!) 10s per ton. Tlio Slime Agency, repmt undor date, Melbourne, October 14th, :—Grain : Little change can be reported so far as prices are concerned in breadstuff* during the past week, whiNt another unfortunate interruption in cable communication with London lias interfered with negotiations which were proceeding in connection with ene or two charters. Tin; latest cable message before tho break reported an easier market in London for spot parcels—induced, doubtless, by the increase in tho foreign arrivals. Vur October-November bills of lading, 43s per 4Solb< c. f. and i. still remained the current quotation for cargoes of Australian ■wheat (iron ship). This is equivalent, with a 2Ds freurlit, to about 4s (id f.o.b. Melbourne, allowing for charges. Tho accounts from the Northern districts are still highly discouraging as to crop prospects, the want of rain being felt specially in the. north oast. To the westward, however, tho outlook lit present is better; but unless wo have a complete break-up in the weather before long, anything like a large grain yield cannot bo looked for in the coming season. Our deliveries of wheat and Hornby rail continue to he well sustained. I'or tho week ending 20;,.) inst. tho receipts at Spencer-street, Williamstnwn, Sfindridge, and town sidings covered 23,485 bags, as agaiiut 17,2(13 bags to hand during the corresponding week last year. Our total deliveries from the Ist of January, ISHB, to the 20th inst., by rail, are returned at 1,8.71,18!) bags of wheat and flour, as compared with 1,270.037 bags to hind for tho same period in I.SS7. Our exports from the Port of Melbourne to the 20th inst, are set down nt 577.701. bags of wheat and flour.— Wheat : Little change in prices. Prime dry Wimmera in shipping lines has buyers atislil unsupplied ; Goiilburn Valley sold sit-l-i "id.—Klour : A fair demand for the intercolonial trade. Stone-made sold from £S lf>s to .Bi) us, according to brand and parcel, and roller from illO 5s upwards.— Oat.s : The inquiry for feed grains is fairly maintained. Stout oats sold at 3s (id to 3s 7d, Tartarian at 3s 7d, Capo to 2s 10d.

Tho Sydney Aceut of tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company reports, under date October 31st:—Butter (duty Id per lb.)—Since last writing our market for this article has continued unchanged until yesterday when the local factory-mad-.! butter declined to lid. This further weakening in prices is difficult to account for, as dry weather still prevails, and everything points to conditions which should mean an improvement, if anything, iu values. At tho moment, however, the local supply of our own factory-made butter is somewhat heavy, and to this fact we can alone aUriVmtc tho drop. The market as wo write is almost bare of N.Z. made butter and it is somewhat difficult to give an absolute quotation ; 7d to od, however, may bo quoted as the nominal figure for best quality. Wo have to call attention to a printer's er.'nr which crept into onr circular of the 11th inst., butter being made to read as " duty free " instead of "duty Id por lb."—Cheese (duty 2d per lb.)-The demand for this article still continues to bo well maintained, and prime N.Z. descriptions from well-known factories are saleable nt up to 'Jd, or perhaps a fraction more.— Hams (duty I'd per lb.)--A somewhat better inquiry has been manifested within the past few days for prime hams, and IVA to Is may now be quoted as the ruling figure for best packs.—B.icon (duty 2-1 per lb) continues quiet at up to !Ud for wellknown brands.—Wheat (free).—We continue to have good inquiry for prime Tuscan for milling purposes, and hare, placed several thousand sacks on a basis of •Is per bushel f.o.b. N.Z. —I'ioiir (free).— There has been sliirhtly men: .■α-tivity in this market, and ;t eon-idi'raU'.e. uii'iiUer of rc-sali.s hive tak f 'ii piaco MweisM brokers, several of tho trade having entered into contracts .-i'.-m-.i time, back iu i:\cessof ther actual requirement-.. A!th"u<,'h themaikct is rather linn.r. we do not think our last quoh.li.-ns eri be altered for actual transactions.

Mi:ss;i; (;ou>si:::or<;if, Mop.t axi> Co. Hrl«,i-|, uiirluf date Melbourne 17.—The win;.it. iti:uket diii'lns! tho month lias rem;iiiii*il firm, ii ru.-nlt due, in a great lneasure, to tlio improved conditinn of the London market. Prices have now, however, touched a point at which shippers siro unable to oporato ; but, owing to the fact that tlie larger proportion of available parcels in store have parsed into the hands nf millers, there is no likelihood of present prices easing. The accounts to hand from the country districts as to tlie prospects of the forthcoming harvest are rather complicating , . As a villi', early-sown crops are looking well, but those put in late are very backward, and probably will give poor results. However, if good raiiv should fall during the present month a general recovery and a fair harvest may be anticipated ; indeed, with an average season from (late there is nothing to warrant tha fairs ex pressed in some quarters of a comparative f.iihire of tlie wheat, crop. With the nnar approach of harvest, it is satisfactory to find that our surplus for export is being steadily reduced; yet, taking tho s f atistic< of the season's yield as approximately correct, we have still upwards ef ."H),000 tins of wheat on hand, a large portion of which wiiJ probably be carried forward to next season. We now quo to wheat at, -U lid per bushel, as obtainable for all lirsl-class milling and shipping paresis, but actual operations are very limited.
