Sale of tub Township Lands. — The sale of the township to the Government is a Mimo in the right direction. Mr Kelly, M. 11. R., has iiitci-estorl himself in the matter, having .succeeded in convincing the Government'of the importance of purchasing the land. Mr Bush, 11. M., is expected here to-day, when ho will interview the natives and endeavour to got them to sell at a price that will be acceptable to the Government. Might thousand is said to be alioiit the pricri that will be offered, which will have to bo divided amongst a larpe number of natives. To double that amount will no doubt bo under what the simpleminded Maori considers a fair price for land that would have been hardly worth fencing in had the Government not erected expensive buildings, besides making many improvements, which have cost the country £30.000. The Mauris, therefore, enjoy, with a vengeance, the unearned increment.
