ROTORUA.

The Tockist Skason.—Between discussing the prospects of the coming tourist season and tho probability of the sale of the township, the citizens of Rotorua have ample scope to exercise their conversational and prophetic faculties. Maoris and Europeans alike are much divided as to whether the Melbourne Exhibition will increase the flow of tourists to the Hot Lakes, or on the other hand the attractions of the Victorian capital will be such as to have an injurious effect on the pi-asperity of Rotorua. The arguments on both sides certainly appear somewhat conclusive, but there is some consolation in knowing that both cannot be right. So rather than have my own opinion severely criticised, I'll sage-like, hold back till the season is over when with impunity I can step forward and say "Itold you

so." Railway Competition.—Mr Hudson, District Railway Manager arrived by coach yesterday, and has been interviewing the storekeepers with the object of Retting them to agree to get their Bonds by train to Oxford, in>toad of via Tauranßa, as at present. Mr Hudson offers to deliver Roods at Rolorua, at £4 per ton including freight by train to Oxford, thence by wagßon to Ritorua. It is doubtful whether he will succeed in getting our storekeepers to agree to his proposal, as our wants are very satisfactorily attended to at prepent. This will enable Mr Vaile to have another dig at our Railway System. .
