S. ANDREW'S, CAMBRIDGE.
Thk first of the extra series of three lectures was given in S. Andrew's schoolroom, Cambridge, by the Rev. Dr. Hooper, the subject being " Hindooism." At the commencement ef his lecture the rev. gentleman said that as the subject of Hindooism was such a wide ono he could not possibly do it justice in the short time at his disposal !in one evening. He had therefore asked permission to be granted another night, so that he could thoroughly explain the ramifications of the religion, which request, ho was pleased to say, had teen granted. The lecture was a most interesting and instructive one, and was listened to with rapt attention by the audience. As the subject b ono that, we feel sure, will interest our readers, and as Dr. Hooper is a high authority upon it, we shall givo an extended report of these lectures in our Supplement. Archdeacon Willis occupied the chair, and fulfilled his promise that the proceedings Bhnuld commence punctually at 8 o'clock, and as the lecturer was not present at that time he read a short essay from "The Leisure Hour" 011 "Cryptograms." The musical portion of the entertainment was confined entirely to ladies, of which the following 13 the programme :—Pianoforte solo, Miss Wilson, "Auld Lang Syne" and other airs, which, we fancy, were the performer's own arranging, and if so, they did her great credit; piano duet, "Valse de Fascination," Misses A. Webber and Wilson, excellently rendered ; song, "Ora Pro Nobis," Mrs Chambers; song, "(rates of the West," Miss Bedlington ; recitation, " Papa's Letter," Miss Le Brock ; song, " Come to My Heart," Miss Chambers. Miss Le Brocks narrowly escaped an encore. Two of the ladios suffered from nervousness, but acquited themselves well. The singing of the National Anthem closed the proceedings.
