TE AROHA.
The Firm of Ngvk.hbkr.—The juvenile portion of our community commemorated this anniversary in the usual manner, effigies of the notorious Guy Fawkes being taken round and pcnce collected fcr the purchase of a supply of crackers and minature fireworks. In the evening fires were lighted in every direction, but a gentle rain soon extinguished them and cooled the enthusiasm of the youngsters. On the same evening the loyal members of No 4 Orange Lodge commemorated the2ooth anniversary of the landing in England of William of Orange by a supper at the Family Hotel, to which a number of friends were invited and a very enjoyable evening was spent.
Serious Accident.—'We have just received news by letter of a very serious accident which happened at Wsihi on Friday last. It appears that a carpenter named William Siumis, \vhil9t working with Mr Geo. l)evey, fell from the scaffold of a building in course of erection to the ground, and received injuries of so severe a nature, that the doctors give but slight hope of recovery. He was carried by friends to Paeroa en route for the Thames Hospital, and was taken thence on Saturday morning. The occurrence has cast quite a gloom over the place, as Mr Simms is thoroughly respected for his genial tenipennent, and has a wifa and four children.
Retirement of Mil H. H. Adams. —It is currently reported that Mr H. H. Adams has sent in his resignation to the Mount Aroha Gold and Silver Mining Company. It is stated as a reason that the company have appointed an expert who will supersede Mr Adams in authority, and though in receipt of a salary of £700 a year, Mr Adams prefers to relinquish his position rather than submit to the indignity.
