RAGLAN.

Wesleyan Home Mission Meeting.—On Friday evening last, the 19th inst., the annual meeting of the Home Mission was held in the Wesleyan Church, a large number of settlers from all parts of the district being present. Mr Pegler took the chair, and in a few words spoke of the Home .Mission, the wants it met, and the good that it produced, etc. The report was read by the Rev. Mr Stephenson, showing the good work that- was being done throughout the colony, especially in remote districts. Rev. Mr Gittos also epoke in the same strain in a speech of some length, which was earnestly listened to throughout, and which was of a most interesting and instructive character. He dealt with the work ill the days that are past, also with the present progress of the cause. Many and varied were the illustrations brought forward, depicting not only the labour and difficulties of the life the Home Missionary residing in the bush settlement of the North and other parts, but also most graphically describing the many phases of Maori lifo, The Rev. gentleman paid a well-deserved tribute ot praise to the old missionaries, who early in the history of the colony, came forward to labour amongst the native race. Hearty votes of thanks to Mr Gittos was proposed Iny Mr Dando, and seconded by Mr A. Wallis. A vote of thanks was also given to the chairman. Various selections of hymns were sung during the evening, .Miss Wallis ably presiding at the harmonium. Manata, a native preacher, also spoke at the close of the meeting. Native Service.—A Maori service was conducted on Saturday afternoon, October 20th, at Te Kopua, near Raglan, the Revs. Gittos and Stephenson taking part in the same. Inclement weather prevented Mr Griffiths from conducting other native services. Weather.—On Sunday last heavy rain storms passed over the district, and ever since very unsettled weather has prevailed —rain and high winds, and very cold weather at times, the wind shifting from one quarter to another as in equinoctial gales.
