The Government lias favourably considered the idea of giving bonuses for stoats and weasels landed in tliu colony for distribution oil Pastoral Crown Lands. The bonuses are fixed an follows Stoats, 20s each; weasels, 10< each. It is understood that the position of consulting engineer in London for the New Zealand Government has been accepted by Mr Blackett, Jingineer-inChief, who will probably leave New Zealand in March next, and take up his abode in London. A slight shock of earthquake was felt in Wellington, and the west coast of the North Island at 12.43 a.m. The statement referring to the decision of the Cabinet respecting the Public Works Department is premature as nothing has been definitely determined. Besides officers employed by the Department in field work, a number will be dismissed from the Head Office and sub-offices, whilst others will be transferred to other Departments to carry on the work now done by Uie Public Works Department.
