Vincbxt's Drain.—His Worship said that, in company with Cr. Bell, he had visited and inspected Vincent's drain, and was surprised at the size of tho drain. The drain was not now as it had been left by Nature, a natural watercourse, but had become a very dangerous place, and he thought that the Council would be liable for any accident that might happen through this drain. At present fhe drain was perfectly sweet, but he did not Unow what stench might arise from it in the. summer. While at the drain ho saw Mr Vincent, who, in reply to a question as to what portion of the cost of fixing the drain he would boar, said hn would lay the pipes if the Council would provide them, but afterwards said that if the Council would provide £30 worth of pines he would do the rest of the work for the drain to the satisfaction of the Council. He did not close with Mr Vincent, but had taken on himself to cancel tho meeting of the committee re taking legal opinion, as the legal opinion alone would cost a large part of the £30, and it now rested .vith the Council to deal with this question. He stated that there were people who said Hint he was being led by certain parties in this matter, and he wished to give this nn emphatic denial, as he was acting on his own opinion. —Mr T. G-. Sondes' estimate for this drain of £01 was laid on the table. ~ Cr. Knox moved that the sum of t2O bo spent on Vincent's drain, in accordance with the resolution passed on the 24th April last, under the supervision of the Mayor.—Seconded by Cr. Bell and carried, the voting being: For the motion: Tha Mayor, Crs. Kn'nx, Salmon, Misseu, Bell, viin' .Stunner and Frear; Against it, Crs. Tippen, Wood and Jones. This concluded the business.
