CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN BOARD.

TO THE KDITOB Sir,—At the Domain Board meeting it was shown that the bunk overdraft has been reduced £118 during the past, twelve months, leaving £108 still to be paid. This amount will doubtlessly be liquidated by this time next year, and then the Board will be entirely free from debt. Happy Board ! We would there were other Domain Boards in Waikato similarly situated, but I fear the Cambridge one is fated to stand alone in this respect for sinie years to come. When Cambridge was proclaimed a Borough—which, by-the-way, many think occurred half a century too soon—one of the first nets of the Council was to request the Governor to hand the Domain property over to their keeping. This was done with a certain amount of arrogance, but when informed they would have to take over some hundreds of pounds liabilities, the Council quiotly let the matter drop. When the Domain Board is free from debt, will the Borough Council again try to get possession? I trust not, for I am certain the majority of the inhabitants would much prefer the gentlemen who have hitherto managed the business in so satisfactory a manner still having control. It is admitted on all hands that no other individual in Cambridge would have taken the trouble to personally supervise the laying out of the Like reserve in such a manner as has been done by Mr Wells, the chairman of the Board ; and it would indued be an ungracious slight to attempt to take the management out of his hands, just as it is beginning to bear fruit, of the care and attention ho has bestowed upon it. The Lake grounds now look very beautiful, and are undoubtedly the sight of Cambridge.— I am, &c., CIVIS. Cambridge, 6th Ootqbar.
