BANKRUPTCY OF MR C. GOULD

Tins first general meeting of the creditors of Charles Gould of Waitoa, a bankrupt, was held at the office of Mr J. S. Edgecuuibe, Waikato Times Buildings on Saturday at 11 a.m. The following creditors were present, personally or by proxy :—Messrs Coatee, Goo. Edgecombe, Lusby, Holt by, Clifford, Bellamy, C. T. Gould, (Mrs Gould), the bankrupt and his solicitor Mr Hay Mr George Edgecumbo was elected chairman and read the bankrupt's statement of assets and liabilities, which were as follows :— Liabilities: William Aitken, Auckland, .I'll, 000, secured on the Waitoa property; unsecured, Joseph Gould, of Christclmrch, merchant, £000; Ballantyne and Co., Cliristclmrch, £5; Mrs Charles Gould, Waitoa, £100; H. and J. Clifford, Morrinsville, £;">; T. Bellamy, £10, W. Lusby, £10; W. tlollby, £4; and S. Burge, £o : total, £12,012. Assets : Stock in trade, £200; book debts, £00 ; cash in hand, £2 10s ; furniture, £100 ; estimated value of Waitoa farm, £15,800 : total, £10,152 1.05.— The Chairman asked the bankrupt to explain why the sun, shown in his li-t, of unsecured creditors as due to Mrs G-nld was only £-100, when the proof re-0-jiied was for £1100. The bankrupt replied that it was an enoras he had no bonks at the time of miking up the lists, £900 being the correct amount, and he would amend the list accordingly. In answer to another question, he said that his wife did not lend or entrust him with her money to expend on the farm, but.it was paid into his banking account, and was drawn out as the farm required it. This was without her sanction ; he intended to refund it.—Mr Hay laid a telegram before the meeting, received from Mr Win. Aitkrii, the principal creditor, informing him that he had not received any notice of the meeting until the sixth. The following resolutions were passed : — Proposed by Mr dates, Seconded by Mr Lusby, " that the creditors being convinced that Mr Gould's bankruptcy is attributable to the fail in the price of land and the existing agricultural depression, ami not to any fault of his own, recommend the Assignee to use all reasonable efforts to facilitate and expedite his discharge."— Proposed by Mr Bellamy, seconded by Mr Clilford, " that the household furniture in Mr Gould's house at Waitoa having been nearly all purchased with Mrs Gould's private money be not interfered with by the Assignee, but remain her separate properly, she to reduce her proof by £100." Carried.— Proposed by Mr Bellamy, and seconded by Messrs H. and J. Clifford, "That Mr I-aac Goates be appointed supervisor, with a remuneration of 2h per cent, on the nett sum realised. Carried nem. con.—A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting, which was a most orderly one. throughout.
