The rivers Yant-se-Kiang and Pechou broke through their embankments and Hooded a large extent of country. McGill, who was arrested on the suspicion of being concerned in the death of a man named King, who was killed on the Midland railway line, has been committed for trial. On August 13th in Euhkeim province, when seven and a-half inches of rain fell in the night, an immense body of water came suddenly from the hills and swept away about twenty villages. It is estimated that ] 0,000 lives have been lost. Several high officials have been degraded for negligence anddilatoriness in repairing the breaches in the Yellow Uiver. The Times will reserve most of its witnesses for the libel action in Edinburgh, brought by Mr Parnell, and will only tender evidence before the Com mission to force Mr Parnell's hand. Riots have occurred between Unionists and Non-Unionists.
