[by telegraph.—press association.] Wellington, Wednesday. Although the project of sending a Wellington rifle team to the Victorian Rifle Association meeting has fallen through, the following volunteers have determined to proceed to Melbourne at their own expense to take part in the shooting :—Lieutenant Davy, Petone Navals; Sergeant Ivutchen, D. Battery; Vol. Ross, City Rifles ; Vol. Ballinger, Guards; Williams, Navals; Scott, D. liattery. Captain Collins, treasurer N.Z.R.A. may also proceed to Melbourne to compete, but has not definitely decided. At the Supreme Court George Hodges, aged fifteen, charged with rape on a child of tender years was found guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy on account of his age. Sentence was deferred until to morrow.
